Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Travis Blankenhorn homered twice, but the Miracle dropped their fifth straight and were swept by the Clearwater Threshers, 9-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Spectrum Field.
Blankenhorn's first blast put the Miracle up 1-0 in the second. Clearwater responded with a three-run third on Adam Haseley's bases-clearing double, taking a lead they would not relinquish.
The Threshers made it 5-1 with two runs in the fourth. The Miracle rallied for one in the fifth and two in the sixth to get within a run, but that's as close as they would get.
Luis Arraez delivered an RBI ground out, Caleb Hamilton had an RBI double, and Nelson Molina came through with an RBI single. Molina had three hits in the contest.
Clearwater pulled away with a four-run bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Wilson Garcia's two-run double. Blankenhorn belted his second home run of the game and fourth of the season leading off the eighth.
Adonis Medina (2-2) started and earned the win for Clearwater. The right-hander went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Tyler Wells (2-1) suffered his first loss for the Miracle. Hector Lujan tossed two and two-thirds scoreless innings out of the Fort Myers bullpen.
The Miracle return home on Thursday night to host the Daytona Tortugas in the opener of a four-game series at Hammond Stadium. First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
