Toronto Marlies News Release
Last Week
The Toronto Marlies continued their dominant play in the New Year collecting three wins on their four game road trip. First was a visit to the Texas Stars, where Toronto would see a surge of offence from the blue line with three defencemen scoring for the Marlies, including the game winner from Stuart Percy in overtime. Toronto then headed to San Antonio for a matchup with the Rampage. In a game that would be slow to establish any offence, Toronto would break out in the third period, supported by a three point effort from Brandon Kozun.
Midway through the third Kozun jumped on a loose puck beside the net to convert the game winner. Two empty netters would bring the final score to 3-0; Antoine Bibeau recorded his 4th shutout of the season. The Marlies then flew to Charlotte for their first meeting this season with the Checkers, affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. Josh Leivo would make his return from injury and find chemistry on a line with Connor Brown and Ryan Rupert, recording a goal and assist in a 4-1 win. This pushed their point streak to a season high 10 games. The teams would face off again Saturday night with Charlotte exacting revenge in the form of a 4-1 victory of their own. Toronto's record over the point streak was 7-0-3-0.
