January 22, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves announced Thursday that goaltender NIKLAS LUNDSTROM has been reassigned to the team from the Alaska Aces (ECHL). Additionally, the team has released goaltender Joel Martin from his Player Tryout contract (PTO).
LUNDSTROM was reassigned by St. Louis (NHL) from Alaska and will join the team as they travel to Texas for back-to-back tilts with the Stars on Friday and Saturday.
The 22-year-old has compiled a 13-12-2 record, 3.21 goals-against average, and .888 save percentage in 27 games with the Aces. He sits fifth in the ECHL in minutes and ninth in wins and saves, ranking among the top three rookies in all three statistics.
The Varmdo, Sweden, native is in his first professional year in North America following parts of five seasons in the Allsvenskan and Swedish Elite League. He compiled a 3-10-0 record and 3.17 goals-against average in 19 games with the SHL's AIK (2010-14). He posted a 7-14-0 record, 2.76 goals-against average, and one shutout in 28 Allsvenskan tilts with AIK (2009-10), Oskarshamm IK (2011-12), and Sodertalje SK (2013-14).
LUNDSTROM helped backstop Sweden to silver medals at both the 2011 U18 Men's World Championship and the 2013 U20 World Junior Championship, being selected as a Top 3 Player on Team in the latter. The goaltender was drafted by the St. Louis Blues with their sixth selection, 132nd overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
The Wolves continue their five-game road trip in Texas with tilts against the Stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. They return to Allstate Arena on Saturday, Jan. 31, to face the Rockford IceHogs and wear their Fight Against Cancer specialty jerseys for the final time.
