Cleveland Monsters News Release
Four third period goals- a season-high for goals in a period- propelled the Lake Erie Monsters (17-16-3-3) to a 6-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (23-14-3-0) Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Joey Hishon led the way for the Monsters with a goal and two assists, while Dennis Everberg, Max Noreau, and Kenny Ryan had a goal and an assist each. Reto Berra stopped 29 of 31 shots for the win in net for the Monsters, who host the Rampage again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
Greg Zanon netted a high shot from the left point to give San Antonio a 1-0 lead 3:05 into the game, but the Monsters answered just 21 seconds later to tie the game 1-1. Joey Hishon took a clearing feed from Gabe Beaupre, streaked up the left side, faked to his backhand, and beat an outstretched Michael Houser top-shelf for his 10th goal of the season.
Corban Knight regained a one-goal lead for San Antonio, making the score 2-1 for the Rampage at 5:11 of the first period when he snuck a puck through traffic and underneath Reto Berra from the right boards. The Monsters were quick to respond again as the back-and-forth first period continued. Dennis Everberg took the puck through the left circle and slipped it across the goal crease for Andrew Agozzino to tap in for his ninth goal of the season at 6:47 of the first period. Hishon also notched an assist on Agozzino's second goal in as many games.
After a scoreless second period, the Monsters had their largest single-period scoring outburst of the season, tacking on four goals in the final frame. Mike Sgarbossa tapped in the rebound from a Stefan Elliott shot at 2:34 of the third period for his fourth goal of the season, and the eventual game-winning goal, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Monsters. Karl Stollery also assisted on the goal.
During a four-on-four sequence at 5:39 of the third period, Kenny Ryan streaked through the left circle and scored top-shelf from the faceoff dot to give the Monsters a 4-2 lead with an assist to Max Noreau. Following the ensuing faceoff, Noreau moved into the offensive zone and wired a long-distance wrist shot upstairs to give the Monsters a 5-2 lead just five seconds later. Ryan assisted on Noreau's goal; his eighth of the season.
Dennis Everberg finished the scoring for the Monsters, slipping a backhand past Houser at 16:30 of the third period for his fourth goal of the season to make the score 6-2. Hishon assisted on Everberg's goal.
Berra stopped 29 of 31 shots for the Monsters to improve to 2-1-1. Houser is 5-6-0 for San Antonio after stopping 24 of 30 shots.
