Rampage Bit by Monsters 6-2
January 22, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
CLEVELAND (Jan. 22, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (23-14-3-0) couldn't rally from a late four-goal deficit on Thursday night, falling to the Lake Erie Monsters (17-16-3-3) 6-2 in front of 5,248 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Six different Lake Erie skaters landed on the scoresheet despite Mark Mancari, Corban Knight and Connor Brickley all extending a point streak for the Rampage.
Just 3:05 into the game, captain Greg Zanon put the Rampage on the board first, scoring his first goal of the season and first in a Rampage uniform. Lake Erie's Joey Hishon notched his 10th of the season just 21 seconds later with a backhander that went in just under the crossbar. Knight put the Silver and Black back up by one, just 2:06 apart from the first Rampage tally, with a goal through the legs of Reto Berra. The Monsters tied the game at two with a goal from Andrew Agozzino at 6:47 to close out the opening 20 minutes.
San Antonio and Lake Erie remained locked at two through the second frame despite the Rampage nearly doubling their shots on net from the first period.
Mike Sgarbossa gave the Monsters their first lead of the game at 2:34 of the third period, scoring off a rebounded puck to make it a 3-2 game. The Monsters followed with two goals from Kenny Ryan and Maxim Noreau just five seconds apart to put Lake Erie up, 5-2. Dennis Everberg gave the Monsters their sixth and final goal of the night to give Lake Erie the 6-2 win in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Houser made 24 saves on 30 shots, and Berra stopped 29-of-31 shots. The Rampage were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, and have only allowed two power-play goals in their last seven games.
KEY STAT
In his 63rd career game with the Silver and Black, Zanon notched his first tally in a Rampage uniform and first since April 5, 2012 when he played for the Boston Bruins organization. This was also his third multi-point game of the year.
The two goals allowed in the third period set a new franchise record for fastest pair of goals against. Scored in a five-second span, the quick tallies topped the previous record of eight seconds, which was recorded on Feb. 11, 2009 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. It also ties the fastest two goals scored in AHL history, last done by the Worcester IceCats on March 30, 2003 against Manchester.
LINEUP NOTES
Vincent Trocheck, who was reassigned by the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, drew into the Rampage lineup and skated on the first line with Garrett Wilson and Bobby Butler. Brett Olson, who has spent the majority of the season centering the Rampage's top line, skated on San Antonio's fourth line. Andrew Yogan was a healthy scratch.
Mancari skated in his 700th professional game.
UP NEXT
The Rampage face Lake Erie again Saturday night in San Antonio's last game before the All-Star Break. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. The Silver and Black return to home ice on Jan. 30 against the Charlotte Checkers. Individual and season tickets can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com .
