Tornadoes Split Seventh Doubleheader of the Season; Colabello 6 RBI in Game

For the sixth time in seven doubleheaders, the Tornadoes won the night's first game and lost the second against the Quebec Capitales on Friday at the HIP. Chris Colabello had six runs batted in during game one as Worcester came back from two different four-run deficits to win 7-6. The Tornadoes' first baseman had a game-tying grand slam in the fifth and the go-ahead RBI double in the sixth after previously hitting a sacrifice fly. in game two, Bryan Rembisz pitched his third straight complete game for the Capitales and beat Worcester 7-0.

Ryan Bicondoa earned the victory for the Tornadoes in game one, pitching six-plus innings. He struck out four batters, walked two and gave up 11 hits. (Eight of those came with two outs.) Quebec scored all six of its runs with two outs, including four (unearned) in the second after Colabello's error. The righty starting pitcher allowed six runs (two earned) in his sixth win of the year.

Nick Serino picked up the save for Worcester, retiring all three batters he faced and stranded the game-tying run (Rene Leveret) on first.

Tony Patane knocked the first run of the game in for the Tornadoes with his second homer of the year in the third, maiking it 4-1 Quebec. Both teams scored in the fifth, with all four of Worcester's runs coming home on the fifth grand slam of the season for the team. Abraham Nunez scored the winning run in the sixth after doubling with two outs.

The loss went to Guillame Duguay, who went 1.2 innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out one batter. ***** In the second game, the Tornadoes were limited to four hits by Rembisz, two of them from Nick Salotti. Abraham Nunez reached all three times up against the Capitales' starter with a pair of walks (the only two alowed by Rembisz) and a single.

Quebec scored first again and had a four-run second in both ends of the twinbill. Kevin Cooper fell to (5-4) on the season, going 1.2 innings in a spot start and allowing five runs (all earned) on three hits, three walks and a hit batter. Matt McDonald held the Capitales scoreless himself in 1.2 innings pitched, but allowed one of the three baserunners he inherited from Cooper to score.

Mike Gedman pitch a pair of frames, walking fours batters and surrendering two runs plus a hit. Mike Mullen pitched two perfect innings, and was the only Tornadoes pitcher to retire the leadoff batter in any inning.

Game three of the series is Fan Appreciation Day at the HIP. There will be giveaways galore, including a signed Cameron Monger game-used bat for one randomly-selected Facebook Fan and a Twitter Follower too who posts on our wall (or sends an @ reply) Saturday before or during the game.

The gates open at noon for the 1:05pm first pitch. Shawn Gilblair will be on the mound against JF RIcard in a battle of young lefties. Pre-game coverage of the game on USTREAM begins at 12:50.
