August 26, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
New Jersey 5, Brockton 4 (Game 1 - 8 innings)
The Rox scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead - their first advantage of the game. But the Jackals tied the game in the bottom of the final scheduled inning before an eighth-inning, pinch-hit RBI single from Kris Sanchez gave New Jersey the 5-4, walk off win. It was Sanchez' 57th RBI of the year. All three of Brockton's seventh-inning runs came in one at-bat when Dominic Ramos hit a three-run blast to put his club on top with one out in the frame. Jackals LF Jordan Newton was the only New Jersey batter with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
New Jersey 3, Brockton 2 (Game 2 - 8 innings)
With two outs and a 1-2 count in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jackals DH Sandy Madera hit a two-run homer to give his club its second walk off win of the day. It was Madera's only hit of the game. All but one of the game's runs came via the home run. Half an inning early, the Rox appeared to take the upper hand with a DH Phillip Cuadrado solo shot. Cuadrodo went 2-for-4 with the homer accounting for his sole run and RBI. New Jersey pitcher Jared Locke gave up the Cuadrado homer, but thanks to Madera's shot earned the win after throwing three innings in relief of starter Shaun Ellis.
Worcester 7, Quebec 6 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
Tornadoes 1B Chris Colabello carried his club in its Game 1 win against Quebec on Friday. Colabello drove in six runs - as many as the Capitales scored all night - on his 2-for-3 night. He scored the only other run, and Worcester finished the contest on top, 7-6. For Quebec, 2B Josh Colafemina went 2-for-3, scored once and batted in two runs. Though he gave up six runs in as many innings, starting Tornadoes pitcher Ryan Bicondoa earned the win, his sixth victory of the year.
Quebec 7, Worcester 0 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
Five different Capitales players scored runs, and nine-hole hitting SS Jeff Helps went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI to help Quebec beat Worcester in Game 2, 7-0. With the offense producing runs from the get-go, Capitales pitcher Bryan Rembisz threw seven shutout innings and allowed only four hits while striking out four Tornadoes batters. Capitales leadoff CF Goefrey Tomlinson also scored twice for the Capitales, going 2-for-4. Tornadoes 1B Nick Salotti had half of his club's hits, going 2-for-3in the game.
Rockland 7, New York 4 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
Federals starting pitcher Steve Merslich struggled with control early, and the Boulders took advantage. Rockland plated four runs on just one hit in the first, thanks to five walks and a wild pitch, and never looked back en route to its 7-4 win. The Boulders outfield duo of LF Jeremy Slayden and RF Ryde Rodriguez each batted in a run and went 2-for-3. The Federals got three hits - one a third-inning home run - from C Dan Coury. But the rest of the New York lineup went just 4-for-24 with three runs and zero RBI.
Rockland 4, New York 2 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
After falling behind, 1-0, in the top of the fourth inning, the Boulders scored three in the bottom of the frame to kickstart its offense and take a 4-2 win over the Federals. Rockland registered only five hits in the contest but took advantage of five walks to plate enough runs to double up New York. New York 1B Eddie Lantigua was the only player in the game with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with one of the Federals' two runs. Rockland left twice as many men on base (6) as New York (3).
Pittsfield 3, Newark 2 (Game 1 - 8 innings)
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh and final scheduled inning, the Colonials did anything but fold and get ready for Game 2. Pittsfield scored two in the frame and used three eighth-inning hits to earn an extra-innings, 3-2 win. Colonials 1B Angel Molina batted in both seventh-inning Pittsfield runs on his only hit of the game. And while the Bears had both LF Brandon Watson and RF Caleb Stewart register multiple hits, no one for Pittsfield had more than one. Watson had a game-high three hits and scored a run.
Newark 4, Pittsfield 4 (Game 2 - In progress - Top 7)
In Game 2 of their doubleheader, Newark and Pittsfield are tied at four runs apiece in the top of the seventh inning. Colonials LF Billy Mottram is 3-for-4 with a run scored.
