Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Brockton, MA -- Lefty Tom Cochran turned in another dominating performance and the Worcester offense provided him with plenty of early run support, as the Tornadoes doubled up the Brockton Rox, 6-3, at Campanelli Stadium on Friday night.

Worcester jumped on Brockton's rookie lefthander Chris McDonough in the 1st, scoring a pair of runs on back-to-back two-out singles by Alex Trezza and Chuck Jeroloman. The Tornadoes would make it 5-0 in the 3rd, plating three more runs on another Trezza RBI single, a Jeroloman RBI double and an Omar Pena sacrifice fly. That would be more than enough run support for Cochran, who tossed 8 brilliant 5-hit innings, with the only blemish on his record, a two-run home run to leftfield off the bat of Jud Thigpen in the 4th. Worcester tacked on an insurance run in the 6th and withstood a Brockton rally in the 9th to seal the victory.

Cochran (7-0) picked up his sixth win in as many starts and McDonough (4-3) took the loss. Chris Colabello led the Tornadoes' 13-hit attack with a 4-for-5 night and Trezza and Jeroloman added two hits and two RBIs apiece. The Tornadoes will look to win consecutive games over the Rox and three straight overall when they play Game Two of their four-game series in Brockton on Saturday night. Righty Shaun McNamara will get the start for the Tornadoes and he will be opposed by Brockton righty Wayne Lundgren. First pitch is set for 6:05pm.

The Tornadoes return home on Thursday, July 10 to conclude the first half with a three-game series against the Nashua Pride. Thursday, June 10 will be a doubleheader starting at 6:05pm. Friday, July 11 will be the Tornadoes' third postgame fireworks show of the year. The series and first half concludes on Saturday, July 12, which will be "Going Green Night," sponsored by Waste Management and Sony.
