
Rapidz swept in doubleheader

(QUEBEC, QC) July 5, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz and the Quebec City Capitales played a doubleheader on Friday night at the old Stade Municipal in Quebec City. The Capitales won the first game by a score of 7-4. The game was the completion of the game which was suspended due to rain in Ottawa on June 18th.
The Rapidz scored the first runs, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Capitales struck back quickly, tying the game at 3 in the second inning before taking a 7-3 lead in the fourth. The Rapidz added a final run in the sixth inning to complete the score.
Mike James (2-0) earned the win, while Jose Guanchez (0-3) took the loss. Juan Infante went 3 for 5 for the Rapidz with one run scored. Issael Gonzalez led the offense for the Capitales, going 2 for 3, with one run scored and two runs batted in.
In the second game of the night the Capitales came back from behind twice, winning the game 7-6 in nine innings and scoring twice on an error by Nate Hall with the bases loaded.
The Rapidz got off to an early scoring start. Jose de los Santos grounded out in the first inning, scoring Jared Lemieux, who was on base, with a lead off double. The Capitales tied the game in the third inning on a ground out by Issael Gonzalez, scoring Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas.
The visiting team exploded with four runs in the seventh. Juan Infante, Greg Dumouchel, and Nate Hall all reached base before scoring on Lemieux's second grand slam, his fourth homerun of the season. Lemieux hit two doubles, one homerun, scored a pair of runs, and added four runs batted in.
Quebec tied the game for the second time in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs against three Rapidz pitchers. The Capitales walked four times and hit once in the inning to score their runs.
Before the game, the Rapidz announced the signing of rookie outfielder Greg Dumouchel. The Ottawa-native was the last player to be cut in the Rapidz first Spring Training and comes back with the team as Pete Pirman goes on the disabled list.
Felix Arellan (1-1) earned the win, while Cardoza Tucker (0-1) in his second outing with the Rapidz took the loss.
The Rapidz and the Capitales continue their 5-game series on Saturday, July 5th. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05pm with Fraser Robinson (2-2, 3.70 ERA) squaring off against his former teammate Orlando Trias (1-4, 5.52 ERA). The team is back in Ottawa on July 9th when Cecil Fielder and his Atlantic City Surf visit to wrap up the first half of the season.
