
Surf bow out to Jackals

Atlantic City, N.J. - New Jersey starter Ted Serro limited Atlantic City to two runs on eight hits, all of them singles, as the Jackals defeated the Surf, 9-2, in a Can-Am League game on Friday evening. The contest drew 6,984 fans, one day after Atlantic City shattered the Can-Am League record with a crowd of 8,016 on Thursday night.
New Jersey jumped on Surf starter Brian Rodaway early, tallying two runs in the first, and then added three more in the third on 3B Chris Kelly's two-run single and RF Marcos Rodriguez's RBI single. It became a 6-0 game in the fifth inning on C Matt Lauderdale's two-out solo shot to left.
Atlantic City got on the board in the sixth, when they strung together four consecutive two-out singles, with DH Eddie Kim's single to center bringing home 1B Clyde Williams and LF Joe Burke.
The Jackals added three insurance runs in the eighth inning on 1B Juan Tejeda's RBI single and Kelly's two-run double, making it the eventual 9-2 final score, for their eighth win in 11 games.
The New Jersey offense was well-balanced, with five different players getting two hits on the evening. Six of the Surf's eight hits came from the 5-6-7 spots in the order, with Williams, 3B Gil Zayas and Kim each going 2-for-4.
Serro (1-0), making his first professional start, notched the victory for the Jackals, while Rodaway (4-3) allowed five earned runs in five innings of work, striking out four, for the loss. Derek Barrows pitched a hitless sixth and seventh innings in relief.
Atlantic City tries to notch a victory in the third game of the four-game set on Saturday evening, with J.C. Huguet (5-1) opposing Juan Done (5-2).
