Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - Sussex third baseman Jay Yaconetti went two for three with three RBI as the Skyhawks knocked off the Nashua Pride 5-3 on Friday night at Skylands Park.
Sussex starter Mark Michael gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits over 6.2 innings. Michael (2-2) walked two and struck out seven to pick up his second win of the season. Matt Petrusek tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save. Nashua reliever Isaac Burkett (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Nashua.
The Skyhawks (22-18) snapped a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth when Yohanny Valera led off with a walk. Chris Brown followed with a single that was misplayed by the Nashua left fielder, allowing both runners to move up to second and third. Jay Yaconetti then doubled, scoring Valera and Brown, to make it 5-3.
The Skyhawks took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Weston led off the inning with a double. Brown walked, and then a Yaconetti single scored Weston. Ron Perodin followed with a base hit that scored Brown, to give Sussex a 3-2 lead.
Nashua (17-22) tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth on an RBI-double by Luis Rodriguez.
Nashua and Sussex return to action Saturday at Skylands Park for the final game of the two-game set. First pitch will be at 5:05 p.m.
