June 7, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Ryan Walfield picked up his first victory as a member of the Tornadoes in Worcester's 11-5 win over the Pittsfield Colonials at Waconah Park on Tuesday morning. The Tornadoes bullpen held the Colonials scoreless and the team's five-run fifth put them up for good.
Five players had multiple hits, three recorded multiple RBI and three scored multiple runs in the six-run win. Alex Nunez hit a two-run homer in the fifth with gave Worcester a 9-5 lead, one of two two-run shots for the Tornadoes. (Mark Minicozzi added one in the eighth inning.)
The Tornadoes had leads of 1-0 and 4-2 that were destroyed by the Colonials, as Pittsfield had 2-1 and 5-4 leads of its own thanks to a pair of multiple-run innings. Alex Trezza (who extended his hitting streak to five games) caught Danny Bomback stealing in the bottom of the fourth to empty the bases, and Worcester never trailed again.
Game two of the three-game set is Wednesday morning at 10:30, while the final game of the series will be a 7:00pm start on Thursday.
