Tornadoes lose 9-5 to Brockton

WORCESTER, MA- On Beach Day, the Tornadoes who are 0-10 on Sundays, lost 9-5 to the Brockton Rox on Sunday in front of 3,104, the fifth sellout crowd in six days.

It was the Jason Radwan show as he provided the Rox first two runs off solo homeruns to opposite fields in the second and fourth.

The Tornadoes put a run on the board in the fourth as Chris Colabello extended his home consecutive on base streak to 31 games with a walk. He would latter score on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Perry.

In the sixth, Francisco Lebron reached on a single and scored on an RBI from Zach Strong. Strong later scored on a wild pitch to put the Rox up 4-1.

Colabello hit his seventh home run of the year in the sixth inning. Bob Tewksbary followed up with his second triple of the year to right field and then scored on a ground out by catcher Patrick Perry to bring the Tornadoes within one run.

Jamie Merchant came into the game in the seventh and gave up a lead off triple to Eugene Julien who scored on a sacrifice fly by Keith Brachold. Lebron stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run homer to put the Rox up 7-3. The Rox would tack on two more in the ninth as Strong and Brad Rosenblat each had RBI singles.

The Tornadoes put together a comeback as Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Perry who reached base on a single. Josh Beauregard followed up with a single to drive in the Jeff LaHair. The two runs in the ninth were all that they would be able to put together.

Greg Montalbano (5-3) took the loss as he pitched six innings giving up four runs (all earned) and striking out nine. Rox John Kelly picked up with win as he pitched six innings giving up six hits and three earned runs.

The Tornadoes will have an off day tomorrow and then travel to Nashua to take on the Pride for a three-game series. The Tornadoes will be back at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Tuesday, August 22nd to take on the Sussex Skyhawks.
