Brockton Rox News Release
WORCESTER, MA-C Jason Radwan hit two solo home runs and 1B Francisco Lebron ripped a two-run shot in the seventh inning to propel the Rox to a 9-5 win over the Worcester Tornadoes before 3,104 at Hanover Insurance Park in the final game of a three-game series. The Rox won two of three in the series and have won three consecutive series overall. RHP John Kelly allowed three runs in six innings to earn his league-leading ninth win of the season and improved to 7-0 in a Rox uniform. LF Eugene Julien had three hits for the Rox in the win, as did Radwan and Lebron. The Rox have won seven of ten games against the Tornadoes in 2006 and improve to 15-12 in the second half (39-34 overall) with the win.
Rox did not trail in the game, taking the lead for the first time in the second. Radwan hit the first of his two homers, a line-drive shot over the wall in left. Radwan's blast was the first hit against Worcester LHP Greg Montalbano. In the fourth, Radwan had the second Rox hit off Montalbano, another homerto give the Rox a 2-0 lead. Worcester scored a run in the fourth against Kelly, but the Rox increased their lead in the sixth. 3B Zach Strong drove home a run with a fielder's choice and a Montalbano wild pitch allowed the Rox to climb out to a 4-1 advantage. However, the Tornadoes rallied again. A 1B Chris Colabello solo HR and an RBI groundout by C Patrick Perry, his second RBI of the game, brought the Tornadoes to within a run at 4-3.
In the seventh, DH Keith Brachold put the Rox up 5-3 with a sac fly, and Lebron crushed a two-run HR to left to widen the Rox lead to 7-3. Strong and CF Brad Rosenblat added RBIs in the ninth inning to score the eighth and ninth Rox runs.
On Tuesday, the Rox resume play at Campanelli Stadium at 7:05 PM against the Sussex Skyhawks with RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-3, 3.82 ERA) on the hill in the first game of a three-game series.
