Game Notes: Starting for the Tornadoes will be Matt Giusti. He started the season in the rotation but lately has been used as a long reliever. He has given up 87 hits and has walked 20 batters while striking out 36 in 60 innings pitched. Giusti also has the only nine inning complete game this season for the Tornadoes, coming back on June 26th against Sussex. He gave up just three earned runs and five hits on that day. In his past two outings, he has done well, giving up three earned runs and six hits while collecting one save in five innings of work. Giusti has started twice against Brockton this season, going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA against the Rox. For Brockton, RHP Wayne Lundgren will get the call. The Australian was a tough luck loser his last time out on August 5th at Quebec, throwing seven innings while allowing just two earned runs and four hits as well as walking five and striking out six. His last win came back on July 13th against Pittsfield, going six strong innings giving up three earned runs, five hits, and striking out four batters as well as walking four. In two starts verse Worcester, Lundgren is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA. Brockton lost both of those starts. The 6'7" righty's best stretch in the season came from June 7th to July 3rd, where he went 5-0 in six starts with 43 innings pitched, 12 earned runs, and 22 strikeouts. Lundgren has also pitched into the 7th eight out of his 14 starts and has eight quality starts.
Last Night: Worcester lost a wild one last night 15-11 in a game that saw seven home runs, two ejections, and 33 hits. Brockton scored three in the first, three in the third, four in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one more in the seventh. Every player in the Rox lineup had at least one hit, with Shawn Williams collecting four (including two homeruns) and Keith Brachold also collecting four (including a homerun and a double). Also collecting homeruns for Brockton was Melvin Falu and Philip Cuadrado. John Kelly had a rough outing, giving up 10 earned runs and 12 hits in three and two thirds innings pitched, raising his ERA from 2.66 to 3.74. Brockton's Jose Aquino collected the win despite giving up eight runs (five earned) in five and two thirds innings pitched. He also gave up eight hits and three walks as well as striking out eight. For Worcester, Ryan Crespi and Omar Pena had big nights. Crespi was four for five with a homerun, a double, five RBI's, and three runs scored. Pena was three for five with a homerun, a double, three RBI's, and two runs scored. Tensions were running high in the fourth, and Kelly as well as manager Rich Gedman were thrown out after Kelly threw three inside pitches.
Tornadoes:
Offense: Ryan Crespi leads the team with a .325 batting average and a .385 on base percentage. Danny Santiesteban leads the team with a .569 slugging percentage and is tied with Chris Colabello for the team lead in homeruns with 11. Colabello also leads the team in RBI's with 52, followed by Mark Minicozzi with 40. Omar Pena leads the team with 34 walks.
Pitching: Rick Asadoorian has the team low in ERA with 1.80, followed by Shawn Gilblair with 1.91. John Kelly and Chris Farley are one-two in strikeouts with 72 and 50 respectively. Asadoorian and Gilblair are also one-two for the team low in average against, on base percentage against, and slugging percentage against. Albert Ayala is tied with Gilblair for the most appearances.
