Stewart, Cate Can-Am Players of the Week

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that Sussex OF Caleb Stewart and Quebec LHP Troy Cate (pictured) have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League.
Stewart batted .406 on the week, capped by his five-hit performance Sunday night in a 9-5 win over Quebec. The 28-year-old slugged three home runs during the week, vaulting him into an eighth-place tie for the league lead. In all, he slugged .688 on the week and drove in 13 runs to pad his league-leading total (70). Stewart was drafted in the 22nd round by the New York Mets in the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft. His .344 batting average is good for third in the league, making him a legitimate triple crown threat.
Cate shut down Brockton's offense in a 2-0 win Thursday night. His eight shutout innings matched a season high, and he allowed just five singles and a walk against four strikeouts. The Rox batted just .185 off of him in the contest. Cate has made seven starts on the season, and improved to 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in 44.2 innings. The 29-year-old was a 6th round selection by the Seattle Mariners in the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft.
