Game Notes: The Tornadoes will send Matt Giusti to the mound. After getting a complete game victory against Sussex on June 26th, he went on to lose Saturday against the Capitales, giving up 8 runs (7 earned) in 5 1/3 innings. So far on the season, he has given up 39 runs (29 earned) and struck out 21 batters in 40 innings. Giusti earned his first professional win against the Rox in his 3rd career start back on June 10th, giving up 1 unearned run and 2 hits in 6 innings. Opposing him will be 32 year old righty Mike Smith, who has lost his past two decisions. In those 2 games, he went 7 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in each. In the most recent start against Sussex he was hit hard, giving up 10 hits to the Skyhawks. Smith has started two games against Worcester this season, getting the win in both. He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 earned runs and 6 hits back on May 29th in a 13-3 win and then pitched a complete game in a 3-1 victory back on June 18th, giving up 1 unearned run and striking out 8 while walking no one.

Last Night: Worcester was able to build an 8-0 lead after 6 innings with 5 homeruns and 7 extra base hits off of Rox pitching, going on to win the first game of the series 9-1. Starter John Kelly went 6 innings for the quality start and win, giving up no runs and 3 hits, all singles, while striking out 7. Omar Pena, Danny Santiesteban, Ryan Crespi, Stantrel Smith, and Nick Salotti each homered while Worcester scored a run in 6 of the 8 innings they batted. 8 of the 11 Tornadoes hits were for extra bases, with 7 players getting at least a hit and 3 getting multiple hits. Santiesteban was the offensive star, going 2 for 4 with a 2 run homerun and an RBI double. Brockton did get a run back on a Philip Cuadrado homerun in the top of the 9th, but Baron Short retired the next 3 batters to finish the game.

Tornadoes:

Offense: 3B Chris Colabello and C Alex Trezza are tied for the team lead with 15 extra base hits. Colabello leads the team with 5 home runs while Trezza leads the team with 13 doubles. Colabello also leads the team in runs scored with 26 and is 2nd on the team in RBI's with 22. 1B Nick Salotti leads the team with 24 RBI's, 10 of which have come with 2 outs. IF Omar Pena leads the team with 16 walks. Salotti's .292 average is also tops on the team for players who have had over 60 at bats.

Pitching: RP Shawn Gilblair leads the relievers with 17 appearances and a team low 2.84 ERA. He also has the best ground ball out to fly ball out ratio on the team with 32 to 10. SP's Chris Farley and John Kelly are tied for the team lead in wins with 4 each. Tonight's starter, RHP Matt Giusti, has .311 batting average against and a 1.725 WHIP.
