Pittsfield Colonials News Release
Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials were foiled by the Sussex Skyhawks, 5-2, in game one of a three game series at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey on Thursday night.
Colonials' starter Trevor Marcotte (2-2) suffered the loss in five and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing four runs on seven hits. Reliever Rafael Lluberes conceded the fifth Skyhawks tally.
Pittsfield outfielder Dan Carte (2-for-3, 2B) extended his hitting streak to 28 games unofficially and is now one game away from matching the Can-Am League record of 29 consecutive games with a hit, set in 2008 by Dennis Abreu with the Nashua Pride and Brockton Rox. Carte notched a pair of hits in a suspended game against the Brockton Rox, which have yet to be recorded to his overall totals until the game is completed on 7/11. Until then, the official statistics will indicate that Carte has hit in one less game than the actual total count.
Colonials' third baseman Jason Taylor (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) provided all the runs for the visitors with a two-run double in the seventh inning, his third of the season.
Skyhawks' starting pitcher Jeff Icenogle (3-1) earned the win with seven and one-thirds innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits with six strike-outs. Closer Dauner Sanchez (12) closed the game with his league leading 12th save of the seaon.
The Colonials continue the series with Sussex on Friday night at 6:05pm when lefty David Qualben (2-4) gets the nod against the Skyhawks Dan Berlind (2-1).
