Skyhawks Spoil Colonials' First Visit to Sussex County

Augusta, N.J. - July 8, 2010 - Left fielder Kraig Binick was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and catcher Ryan Boelsen was 1-for-4 with two RBI as the Sussex Skyhawks (21-18) defeated the Pittsfield Colonials (14-23) 5-2 at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park on Thursday night. The game marked the Colonials' first in Sussex County after the franchise's move to Pittsfield from New Hampshire this past offseason.

The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Boelsen doubled over Pittsfield center fielder Quentin Davis's head, scoring two. The home team added two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single by center fielder Carl Loadenthal and a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Caleb Stewart. First baseman Kris Sanchez provided the fifth and final run of the evening in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single.

Sussex starter LHP Jeff Icenogle pitched his second-longest game of the season, shutting out the Colonials for six innings before allowing two runs in the seventh. He scattered five hits and one walk in 7.1 innings while striking out six en route to his third win of the year. RHP Kevin Gunter pitched a scoreless two thirds of an inning in the eighth and RHP Duaner Sanchez picked up his twelfth save of the season in thirteen opportunities with a scoreless ninth. Pittsfield starter RHP Trevor Marcotte absorbed the loss for the visitors.

The Skyhawks and Colonials continue their three-game series Friday night at 6:05 p.m. at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park. Friday is Military Appreciation Night sponsored by Picatinny Federal Credit Union; Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 88 Chevy sponsored by the National Guard will be on display at the stadium, and there will be fireworks after the conclusion of the game.
