Game Notes: The Tornadoes welcome the Rox to the HIP for the first time this season and try to break their 5 game losing streak by sending John Kelly to the mound. Kelly, who played and coached the Rox last year, will be making his first start against his former team. After a very good start, he has fallen into a little slump as of late, picking up the loss in both of his last two starts. He gave up a combined 10 earned runs and 14 hits in those games, which came against Sussex and Pittsfield. Kelly leads all pitchers with 40 K's and has a team low 1.105 WHIP. Opposing him for the Rox will be 6'7" righty Wayne Lundgren. The Aussie, who pitched in the World Baseball Classic in 2006, has had very good success since June 7th, going 5-0 in 6 starts and lasting at least 7 innings in every game. He faced Worcester once back on May 28th, getting a no-decision with 5 innings pitched and 2 earned runs. The Tornadoes did prevail in that game with a 3-2 win.
Tuesday: The Tornadoes could not overcome 5 errors and 4 unearned runs as the team lost its fifth straight to the Capitales 7-2 on Tuesday. Worcester jumped ahead 1-0 on an RBI single by 1B Nick Salotti in the top of the first, but Quebec answered three runs in the bottom half of the frame to get all the runs they would need. Salotti was the only Tornado to have multiple hits as he was 3 for 5 with 3 singles. Quebec's starter Troy Cate went 5 innings allowing 2 runs, and then the bullpen combo of Andrew Albers and Andy Schon combined to give up just 2 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings of work.
