Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (77-60) struggled to find the scoreboard tonight, going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and tallying their only run via a balk in a 6-1 loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (72-64) Monday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown. With division-rival New Orleans' contest postponed tonight, the 'Topes' magic number remains at 4.0 games. Albuquerque scored its sole run of the game in the fourth as Scott Van Slyke roped a one-out double and moved to third on a flyout from Tim Federowicz. With Matt Angle at the plate, 'Hawks starter Jarred Cosart was called for a balk, sending Van Slyke home to put the 'Topes up 1-0. Starter Will Savage did everything he could to pick up his elusive 11th win, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings to help preserve the Isotopes' slim lead. The right-hander continues to be phenomenal against the RedHawks this season, and following tonight's performance, has surrendered just six runs through three starts for an impressive 3.18 ERA. Oklahoma City then capitalized on Savage's departure, pounding out four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Carlos Corporan sparked the onslaught with a leadoff double and took third on a bunt single from pinch-hitter Angel Sanchez. J.B. shuck followed with a walk that loaded the bases and set the stage for Brad Snyder, who promptly ripped a two-run single to right to give the RedHawks a 2-1 edge. Matt Downs then continued the rally with a sac-fly to left, making the score 3-1, before Mike Hessmann capped the inning with a solo shot to left that extended the lead 4-1. With two outs in the frame, Isotopes reliever Tim Corcoran, who last pitched for the 'Topes during the 2010 campaign, made his season debut, allowing two runs through 1.0 innings. The right-hander was signed by the Dodgers from Carmen of the Mexican League earlier last week. The home team then padded its lead in the eighth as Corporan drew a one-out walk, took second on a pinch-hit single from Brian Bixler and came to rest at third on a base knock from Shuck. With the bases juiced, Snyder again played the hero for the 'Hawks, slapping an RBI single to left-center that widened the advantage 5-1.

Snyder finished the night a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. Two batters later, Hessman coaxed a bases-loaded walk that allowed Bixler to cross home and put Oklahoma City up 6-1. RedHawks reliever Chuckie Fick came on in the ninth, collecting three consecutive groundouts from the 'Topes to retire the side and give the 'Hawks a 6-1 victory. Albuquerque and Oklahoma City continue their four-game set tomorrow night. Isotopes right-handed ace John Ely (14-7, 3.10) gets the nod against RedHawks righty Jose Cisnero (3-1, 3.94) with first pitch slated for 6:05 PM MT at Bricktown. Following their series in Oklahoma City, the 'Topes will return home Friday, August 31 for the final homestand of the regular season against the Omaha Storm Chasers with promotions including three fireworks shows and a Bobble-Logo giveaway! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or online at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
