Back-to-back three-run innings by the Tucson Padres aided the team to a 10-6 win over the Salt Lake Bees Monday at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The victory was the team's sixth in the past nine games. The Bees scored first in the opening inning on a throwing error by Padres pitcher Josh Spence. Luis Jimenez hit an infield single back to Spence who attempted to underhand the ball to third baseman Jedd Gyorko, but the ball went under a moving Gyorko into foul territory, allowing two runs to score. Ed Lucas increased Salt Lake's lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the second.
The Padres answered with thee runs in the top of the third to tie the game. Andy Parrino began the scoring with an RBI single to right field followed by back-to-back sacrifice flies by Gyorko and Matt Clark. Rocky Gale put Tucson ahead 4-3 in the fourth inning when he hit a RBI double over the left fielder's head. Daniel Robertson scored Gale on a triple to right field and Parrino brought home Robertson on an RBI single to give the Padres a 6-3 lead. Robertson finished the night with four hits and three runs scored, falling a home run shy of a cycle.
Tucson scored once more in the fifth on another RBI double by Gale. In the eighth inning the Padres scored three runs highlighted by Gyorko's 24th home run of the season over the left field wall. The Bees responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning led by a two-run home run by Jimenez.
Jorge Reyes earned his first career save to secure the victory for the Padres. Spence picked up the win in his first game back with Tucson. He went five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, and six strikeouts. Sean White lost his second game for Salt Lake, surrendering four hits and three runs in 2.1 innings of work.
