Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens survived a ninth inning threat Sunday for the 3-1 win over Louisville at Fifth Third Field.
Reliever Jose Cisnero would throw two straight strikeouts for the save after loading the bases with one out.
Toledo, who extended its season-opening winning streak to three games, jumped out ahead in the bottom of the first on Victor Reyes' third recorded RBI this season.
Sitting in second behind Daniel Woodrow (4), who scored the game-winner Saturday in extra innings, Reyes drew a standup double as his grounder found an opening past Louisville first baseman Brian O'Grady.
Reyes, 24, is batting .231 with two doubles and one triple this season.
The second run scored off right-hander Keury Mella came in the third before the Bats went to their bullpen.
Harold Castro would drop in a blooper to shallow left field to score Daz Cameron.
Cameron led off the inning with his fifth-career double in the Triple-A ranks after going hitless in Saturday's win.
Right-hander Beau Burrows pitched four innings, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out six in his first appearance with Toledo.
Promoted from Double-A Erie where he started in 26 games in 2018, Burrows is the No. 6 ranked Detroit Tigers prospect, according to MLB.com.
Louisville managed to cut the deficit on designated hitter Josh VanMeter's double to the right field wall.
VanMeter, the 2013 San Diego Padres fifth-round draft pick, is batting .333 with three hits and one RBI this series.
The Mud Hens had a two-run advantage heading into the sixth.
Jacob Robson rounded two bases for the unearned run when catcher Chris Okey hurled the ball over the second baseman's head and into center field.
Toledo leads the International League in stolen bases (9) this season.
Releivers Matt Hall, Jose Manuel Fernandez and Cisnero combined for five shutout innings to finish out the game.
Hall, 25, allowed a walk and double in the sixth to set up runners at second and third with one out. But back-to-back strikeouts would end the scoring threat and lead to the win for the native of Independence, Missouri,.
The Mud Hens registered 15 total strikeouts and five hits.
