TOLEDO, Ohio - The Louisville Bats (0-3) fell to the Toledo Mud Hens (3-0) on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field by a 3-1 score. It marks the first time that Louisville has began a season with three consecutive losses since 2006, when the Bats started off 0-4 against Ottawa and Syracuse.

Toledo scored first in the game, with Victor Reyes doubling in Harold Castro to give the Hens an early 1-0 edge against right-handed starter KeuryMella (0-1, 3.00) and the Bats. Mella was stuck with the loss despite recording the pitching staff's first quality start of the young season, going 6.0 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits, walking two and striking out five on 80 pitches, 52 strikes.

Louisville scored its lone run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth, when Josh VanMeter's RBI double scored Phillip Ervin to make it a 2-1 deficit. Toledo grabbed an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Okey's errant throw attempting to catch Jacob Robson from stealing second base allowed him to come around to score and make it a 3-1 game.

Left-hander Cody Reed came in for the Bats and threw 2.0 shutdown innings of relief in the seventh and eighth, making it the second night in a row that Louisville's bullpen has not allowed an earned run. The offense made it interesting in the top of the ninth, drawing three walks to load the bases with one out, but ultimately struck out in the game's final two at-bats, handing Toledo closer Jose Cisnero his second save of the series.

The Bats and Mud Hens finish up their four-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Louisville right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez is set to make his Triple-A debut, while left-hander Tyler Alexander is set to make his 2019 debut for the Mud Hens.
