Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (2-1) swept Saturday's doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings (1-2). The IronPigs won Game 1 by a score of 12-3 and Game 2 by a score of 4-1.

Game 1

The IronPigs lineup wasted no time against Red Wings starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe (0-1). Mitch Walding hit a first-inning three-run home run and Lane Adams hit a solo home run in the following at-bat to give the Pigs a 4-0 lead. The last time two IronPigs hit back-to-back home runs was in July of last year at Columbus.

Rochester answered with two runs off Jerad Eickhoff (1-0) in the top of the second inning as left fielder Brent Rooker hit a two-run home run. The IronPigs extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the second inning off Thorpe. Damek Tomscha scored on an RBI groundout by Phil Gosselin and Jan Hernandez hit an RBI single that scored Malquin Canelo.

Lehigh Valley chased Thorpe out of the game after four inning as they took an 8-2 lead. Canelo scored on a fielding error by Randy Cesar and Walding hit a two-run single. Thorpe allowed nine runs off ten hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

Jake Reed allowed three runs for the Red Wings in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gosselin hit an RBI single that was followed by a two-run home run by Hernandez to give the IronPigs a 12-2 lead.

The Red Wings got a run in the top of the seventh inning against Tyler Gilbert. Wynston Sawyer hit an RBI double that scored Cesar and cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 12-3.

Game 2

IronPigs starting pitcher Enyel De Los Santos (1-0) was the story in Game 2 as he struck out a career-best 10 batters in just five innings with no walks. He gave up a solo home run to Randy Cesar and that would be the only blemish in his outing.

Deivy Grullon scored on a balk for the IronPigs first run of the game. Shane Robinson hit a go-ahead solo home run off Preston Guilmet in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gosselin hit an RBI double to score Canelo to give the IronPigs a 3-1 lead. Walding added an RBI single for the Pigs' fourth run of the contest.

Josh Martin earned his first save as an IronPig after retiring the side in the top of the seventh inning.

The IronPigs play for a series win on Sunday afternoon against the Red Wings. First pitch is scheduled at 1:35 p.m.

The 2019 IronPigs season is the team's 12th as the top affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies and 12th at Coca-Cola Park. Follow the IronPigs on Twitter at @IronPigs and like them on Facebook via facebook.com/LHVIronPigs.
