
Toivonen huge in shootout win

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs played the ninth game of their 10-game season series on Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena, with the Bruins taking a 3-2 decision in a shootout. Providence is now 4-7 this season in shootouts, and has won three of its last four shootout decisions. The win improved the Bruins' record to 36-26-3-7 (82 points) on the season, putting the team in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
Bruin forwards Andy Hilbert and Patrice Bergeron tallied the team's shootout goals, as Providence held a 2-1 advantage in the extra session.
Center Brad Boyes notched his career-high 32nd goal of the season on his league-leading 19th power play goal. Fellow center Ben Guite added his seventh goal of the year. Both goals came in the second period after the Bruins fell behind, 2-0.
Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen was outstanding in the game, stopping 43 shots and being named the game's First Star. He also stopped four of the five shots he faced in the shootout. Toivonen, who has won four straight decisions, is 25-15-3 on the season.
The Bruins visit the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550 and on the team website, www.providencebruins.com.
The Bruins and Monarchs wrap up their season series on Sunday, April 3 at 4:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence.
