
Bieksa named AHL Rookie of the Month for March

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce today defenceman Kevin Bieksa has been named the Reebok AHL Rookie of the Month for March, 2005.
Bieksa, 23, appeared in all 13 games the Moose played in the month of March. He scored two goals and added nine assists for 11 points to finish third on the team in scoring during the month. The Grimsby, ON native also finished the month +11 and is now tied with Lee Goren for the team-lead in that category at +22 overall. He leads all rookies in the AHL in overall +/- rating. His month was highlighted by a five-game points streak from March 17-26th in which he recorded two goals and four assists for six points. He collected the game-winning goal March 24 versus the St. John's Maple Leafs. Overall, Bieksa is now tenth in the AHL in scoring amongst rookies with 10 goals and 35 points in 70 games this season. He has also collected 173 penalty minutes.
Bieksa was the fourth choice of the Vancouver Canucks, 151st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
In recognition of his achievement, Bieksa will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming game. He is the first member of the Manitoba Moose to ever be recognized as Reebok AHL Rookie of the Month.
