Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting and Saginaw Spirit meet tonight in the 4th of 6 regular season meetings.Tonight is the front side of a home and home between the teams who will renew acquaintances again tomorrow night in Saginaw.The Sting have won all 3 meetings between the clubs this season and have won all 9 contests since the Spirit have come into the Ontario Hockey League.The Sting come into tonight's game off a 5-2 win last night over the Windsor Spitfires in Windsor.Daniel Sisca (18,19,20) recorded the hat-trick for the Sting.Dave Pszenyczny (10) and Danny Fritsche (3) rounded out the Sting scoring. Sting netminder Ryan Munce made 38 saves on 40 shots for the victory.The Sting snapped a 3-game losing streak in the victory and are now 4-6-0 in their past 10 games.The Sting come into tonight's game with a 13-8-2 record here at the SSEC and are 9-3-2 on home ice since the beginning of November.The Spirit's last game was Saturday January 17th in which they suffered a 2-1 loss to the Erie Otters in Erie.The Spirit mirror the Sting with a 4-6-0 record in their past 10 leading up to tonight's game.The Spirit have a record of 2-22-0 on the road.
KING REMAINS OUT
Overage forward Colt King will miss his second consecutive game due to suspension.King received an instigating penalty with less than five minutes left in the game vs. the Oshawa Generals last Sunday.The penalty carries an automatic two-game suspension.
HOME SWEET HOME
Both the Sting and Spirit have considerably better records when playing at home.The Sting are five games above .500 at home as opposed to three games under .500 on the road.The Spirit are a respectable .500 at home yet are 20 games below when travelling.
100th GAME
Sting forward Marco Caprara will suit for his 100th OHL regular season game tonight.Caprara who is closing in on his own franchise record for penalty minutes in a season (294) has 224 min. in penalties so far this season.Caprara now has 518 penalty minutes in his career.An average of 5.18 minutes a game.The career penalty minute mark for the franchise is 657 set by ex-captain Andrew Proscurnicki.Proscurnicki played in 225 games to set the mark.
ON DECK
The Sting round out its current three game in three day swing when they travel to Saginaw to take on the Spirit in the back end of this home and home series.The Sting then also hit the road next weekend for games in Kitchener and Erie, Friday and Saturday.A regularly scheduled game for Sunday February 1st vs. the Plymouth Whalers has been moved to Wednesday February 4th with a 7:30 faceoff.
