The Saginaw Spirit battled back to erase two and one goal deficits and tie the Sarnia Sting late in the third period, but a last minute powerplay goal foiled Saignaw's comeback and gave Sarnia a 4-3 win Friday night.

The Sting scored first in the first period, and early in the second period. Spirit goaltender Mike Brown left the game shortly after the second goal and was replaced by Eric Pfligler. The Spirit then scored on a wraparound goal from Jesse Gimblett to cut the lead to one. The Sting answered a minute later before Adam Gibson put in a powerplay goal late in the second to cut the lead to one again.

The game was tied deep into the third period when Nick Lees poked home his own rebound to tie the game at 3-3. The Spirit were then penalized for a late change and were forced to go onto the penalty kill for the final two minutes of the game, and Sarnia converted on the powerplay to end the game 4-3. Saginaw played the final 30 seconds of the game with an extra attacked but were unable to tie the game to force overtime.

Spirit goaltenders Mike Brown and Eric Pfligler stopped 31 shots in the effort. The loss takes the Spirit record to 12-30-2-3 on the season. The Spirit return home to play the Sting Saturday night at 7:00 PM at the Saginaw County Event Center. It's Staples Mouse Pad night for Spirit fans, and join the team for a pre-game check presentation to Relay for Life from the proceeds of Meijer Teddy Bear Toss night.
