
DiRienzo Backstops Rangers to Win

Kitchener, ON: The Rangers used goals from four different players tonight to knock off the visiting Brampton Battalion 4-1 before a crowd of 5,908.
The Battalion struck first at 10:47 when Howie Martin beat Carlo DiRienzo for his 10th of the season.
The Rangers responded with three goals in a span of less than four minutes to pull ahead 3-1 after the opening period of play. Evan McGrath added his 13th of the year at 13:48 to tie the game at 1-1. Paul McFarland scored his 8th at 16:31 and Andre Benoit fired his team leading 21st to close out the scoring in the period at 17:27.
In the second period Michael Richards scored the only goal of the period, his 19th at 5:49 to put the Rangers up 4-1.
In the third period the Rangers outshot Brampton 13-11 but neither team could add another goal. For the game the Rangers held the advantage in shots on goal at 43-38.
Carlo DiRienzo played a solid 60 minutes picking up his 13th win of the season turning aside 37 shots. DiRienzo was also named the 3rd star of the game.
The Rangers next home game is Friday, January 30th vs the Sarnia Sting. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Rangers travel to Erie tomorrow night to face the Otters. Game tie in Erie is 7:30 p.m.
