Titans GameDay at Reading, February 24 - Game 56 (Away 27)

February 24, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Last Meeting

February 23, 2013 - For a change the Titans beat Reading at home without the need of an OT session. Stephen Schultz scored four straight power play goals and Scott Wedgewood stopped 29 to lead Trenton to a 6-0 win.

Next Meeting

These arch-rivals have one more game remaining. The 15th and final clash will take place in Reading, March 28th at 7:05 pm.

Season Series (13 of 15 Gms)

Reading is 7-3-3 (all 3 OTL have come at Trenton); Trenton is 6-6-0-1 (1-3-0-1 in Reading, including losing the last 4).

Very Special Teams

Despite a 4-for-4 effort last night, the Titans were unable to regain the top PK spot in the league. Trenton still sits in second at 85.8 percent (193-225), after being first for around a month.

Reading could continue to add to those numbers. Despite a dangerous offense, the Royals PP has struggled most of the season (18th overall at 15.4 now), thanks in no small part to Trenton. After last night's 0-for-4, they are 2-for-55 on the year (3.6) against the Titans and haven't scored since the beginning of the season - a streak of 47 chances. The last PPG came at 15:07 of the first on October 17 - the second meeting of the year (1 goal allowed in each of the first 2 games).

Meanwhile a Titans PP that hadn't scored in 13 consecutive tries over four-plus games (since going 3-6 against Kalamazoo on February 14), went bananas, capitalizing on 4-of-7 chances. Trenton has done well against Reading, scoring now in nine of the 13 meetings, putting up 3+ goals three times. The Titans have scored 8 PPG in the last three meetings and are 17-61 (27.9) for the season against the Royals.

Record Setting Night

Schultz ties league PP record; Wedgewood gets first pro shutout

It was one of those fun but rare nights when you can not only go crazy watching your team put up big numbers, but you scramble for the record books as well.

Stephen Schultz's 4 PPG tied an ECHL record, and was the Titans only 4 goal game since 1/15/11 (Dan Charleston). It also just missed the team record of 5 (Mathieu Brunelle, 1/31/04).

The 6-0 win is the Titans' largest at home since beating Wheeling by that score (4/4/09) and overall, winning in Cincinnati (3/13/08). These are the only times the Titans won by that score since prior to 2006-07.

The 4 PPG are the most since getting four in the home opener last year, an 8-5 win over Florida (10/22/11).

Finally, Scott Wedgewood notched his first professional shutout in his rookie season. The last Trenton goalie to blank a team was Shane Connelly back on February 9, 2011, with the (then) Trenton Devils. He stopped 27 in a 2-0 win at home over Kalamazoo.
