Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: Brendan Connolly scored a hat trick to lead the Road Warriors to victory in a 3-2 win over South Carolina.
The Stingrays kicked off the scoring for the third straight game. Justin Courtnall took a shot that rang off the post and laid uncovered for Jay Silvia to knock in for his second of the year. The Road Warriors had two opportunities on the power play but no goals were scored with the man advantage. Brendan Connolly took an interference call late in the first that carried over to the second period.
Greenville was able to kill off the penalty and were given a five minute power play as Andrew Cherniwchan took a cross checking major and a game misconduct. The Road Warriors could not score during that five minutes but were given another power play which Brendan Connolly used to break the scoreless drought. Connolly fired a one-timer past Jeff Jakaitis that rang off the post and went into the net. Connolly's 20th goal of the season broke the Stingrays' shutout streak of 217:02. Mike Marcou and Jordie Johnston were credited with the assists. A Lee Badlwin boarding call put the Road Warriors down a man just moments later. South Carolina capitalized on the man advantage to put them up by a score of 2-1. Tyler Johnson scored his eighth of the year on a rebound goal. Greenville was relentless on the attack and outshot South Carolina 18-8 in the period.
Brendan Connolly tied the game up at two just 2:19 into the third period. He took a shot that trickled down Jakaitis and barely rolled over the goal line. It was Connolly's second of the game and 21st of the season. Connolly wasn't done yet as he scored 5:44 later. It was his 22nd of the season and his third hat trick of the year. It was a tick-tack-toe play with passes from Ryan Flanigan and Mike Marcou. The Road Warriors were able to fend off the final attack from the Stingrays to win the game 3-2. Connor Knapp won his second ECHL game of the year with 24 saves. Jakaitis took the loss with 41 saves.
The Road Warriors begin a three game home stand next Friday against the Elmira Jackals at 7 p.m. Hockey Happy Hour returns with FREE FOOD, DISCOUNTED DRINKS AND ENTERTAINMENT!
