Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 4-1, to take five of six points from the weekend's three-game set after an overtime loss Friday and a shutout win Saturday. Adam Brown nearly recorded his second straight shutout (stopping 30 of 31 shots), while Michael Forney (1-1-2), Kevin Ulanski (1-1-2) & Ray Kaunisto (1-1-2) each tallied multiple points.

Fitting of the blustery winter day, Colorado stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first frame. The home team opened the scoring at 8:11 when Forney danced with the puck along the left midboards before finding Ulanski drifting back to the point for a one-timer past Adam Morrison.

And just 29 seconds later Kaunisto made it 2-0 when he picked up a loose puck inside the offensive zone and beat Morrison with a long-range wrister. Then, with just over three and a half minutes left in the first period, following a strong shift in the offensive zone, Arthur Bidwill's shot from the point was deflected by Forney to make it 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

The second stanza was scoreless -- thanks in large part to 14 saves from Brown -- highlighted by a stop made on a 2-on-1 Utah rush while the Grizzlies were shorthanded. Brown helped the Eagles also kill off a pair of overlapping penalties late in the frame to send the game into the third period, 3-0.

The Grizzlies finally got on the board at 6:50 of the final frame following a broken play in their own end of the ice. Morrison raced into the high slot to beat Kaunisto to a loose puck, but he quickly gave the puck away. Somehow he was able to keep it from going into his vacated net, and after he recollected it, he sent it ahead on a rush that ended with James Martin beating Brown at the opposite end of the ice.

But Colorado got that goal back when their league-leading power play struck at 11:52, when Collin Bowman and Ulanski passed the puck back and forth at the point before the former one-timed a shot home to make it 4-1.

The Eagles will play again on Wednesday when they host the expansion San Francisco Bulls at the Budweiser Events Center.
