Asheville Tourists News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - Jesus Tinoco had a rough start to his 2016 campaign in High-A Modesto. The right-hander dominated in his seven starts with Asheville in 2015, but his early season struggles this year resulted has him back with the Tourists. On Saturday, Tinoco made his 2016 debut with Asheville and pitched well against the Charleston RiverDogs. Unfortunately, the Tourists were shutout 3-0 for the second game in a row.

Tinoco pitched 6.1 innings and surrendered two runs on seven hits. Most of the hits he allowed were groundballs; however, he did give up a solo Home Run to Alexander Palma in the seventh. Charleston loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning but Tinoco limited the damage to only one run.

The problem for the Tourists Saturday, and really all series, was the lack of offensive production. The Tourists managed three hits in the game, all singles. Asheville has not scored a run in 18.1 straight innings and only has one earned run through the first 27 innings of this series. They have totaled one extra-base hit in the last three games; a double on Friday that Charleston's fielders lost in the lights.

Asheville has lost six consecutive road games, all of which have come by three runs or less. The six game road skid matches a season-high which the Tourists suffered back in April. They also dipped below .500 for the time since May 21. The Tourists will look to avoid being swept with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 5:05pm.
