Asheville Tourists News Release

SAVANNAH, GA-- Jesus Tinoco made his first appearance in an Asheville Tourists uniform and his first as a member under the Colorado Rockies farm system on Sunday afternoon. The right-handed pitcher is one of the players the Rockies acquired during the trade that sent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays. Early indications on the change in scenery are positive for Tinoco and the Rockies as the Maturin, Venezuela native spun six shutout innings in Asheville's 2-0 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats.

Tinoco worked quickly and fired strikes. He was consistently put under pressure by Savannah's Martires Arias who churned out scoreless frames one after the other ahead of Tinoco. Despite the Tourists setting a season-high with 19 consecutive innings without a run, they broke the streak in the top of the sixth inning.

Robbie Perkins led off the inning with a single into right-field. Two batters later, Max White doubled to the right-centerfield gap. With runners at second and third, Arias induced a shallow fly out off the bat of Yonathan Daza. The inning rested on Shane Hoelscher's at bat and the Tourists second-baseman delivered. Hoelscher lined a single back up the middle and both runners came in to score.

Hoelscher's two-run single was the only scoring of the afternoon. After Tinoco was lifted from the game, John Sheehan and Yoely Bello combined to shutout the Sand Gnats in the next two innings. Josh Michalec worked a perfect ninth by inducing three groundouts to notch his 23rd save of the season. The shutout was the Tourists eighth tossed this year.

Tinoco finished with six innings pitched, no runs allowed, four hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts. The win snapped Asheville's three-game losing streak and kept the team in first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern division.

Up next is a three-game series against the Kannapolis Intimidators. Game one is set for 7:05pm Monday evening at Intimidators Stadium in Kannapolis.
