TinCaps turn tables, shut out Hot Rods 3-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps used the offense of infielder Cory Spangenberg and some outstanding pitching by a trio of pitchers to post a 3-0 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Thursday night, in front of 8,319 fans at Parkview Field.
Spangenberg doubled to start the bottom of the fourth inning, advanced to third base on an infield ground out, then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rymer Liriano to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Spangenberg followed a lead-off single by Rico Noel with a drive down the right field line that bounced off the foul pole for a home run, his first as a member of the TinCaps, and his second home run as a professional.
The two runs that scored made the score 3-0, and was more than enough offense for the pitching trio of Dennis O'Grady, Adam Dominick, and Kevin Quackenbush.
O'Grady pitched the first six innings, scattering three hits, walking three, and striking out six.
Dominick pitched a pair of scoreless innings, then gave way to Quackenbush, who got the final three outs to preserve the 10th shut out of the season turned in by the Fort Wayne pitching staff.
O'Grady (3-0) picked up the win, his second in less than a week over Bowling Green.
Hot Rod starter Braulio Lara (3-10) suffered the loss, while Quackenbush collected his fifth save in as many save opportunities.
The three-game series is now tied at a win apiece, with the finale set for Friday night.
The starting pitchers will be Keyvius Sampson (9-2, 2.66) for Fort Wayne and Wilking Rodriguez (0-0, 1.76) for Bowling Green.
