Dragons On The Field
Dayton had held at least a share of first place since June 29. The team has been in first place for all but four days of the second half, which began on June 24. Through the first 44 games of this after the all-star break, the Dragons had their best record second half record since 2008.
The Dragons were batting .280 in the second half through 43 games after hitting .241 in the first half (70 games). The Dragons are averaging 5.7 runs per game in the second half (4.23 in the first half). The Dragons led the league in team batting in July at .285.
Dragons closer Drew Hayes has converted 18 saves in 19 tries this season. His save total ranks second in the Midwest League. Through August 10, he had not allowed a run over 7 1/3 consecutive innings. Hayes is also holding opponents to a .130 batting average against him.
