
Loons Too Much for the Captains

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Zach Lee threw six strong innings and Chris Jacobs drove in two runs as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Lake County Captains 4-3 on Thursday night.
The Loons scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning when Leon Landry doubled and went to third on a passed ball. He would score on a fielding error. Three batters later, Jon Garcia drove in Steve Domecus and the Loons led 2-0. The Captains evened it up in the bottom of the second inning when LeVon Washington hit an inside-the park home run that scored Giovanny Urshela to tie the game at 2-2.
Chris Jacobs led off the top of the fourth inning with his ninth homerun of the year and the Loons led 3-2. The Loons added a run in the top of the sixth inning when Jacobs doubled home Michael Pericht to make it 4-2. The Captains cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Shin-Soo Choo grounded out allowing Nick Bartolone to score.
Captains starter Kirk Wetmore (3-2) took the loss working five innings allowing three runs, one earned on four hits, walking one and striking out four. Kyle Blair allowed a run in two innings of work in his first appearance back from the disabled list. Luis Encarnacion worked the 1.2 scoreless innings and Kyle Petter recoded the final out of the ninth inning.
Loons Starter Zach Lee (8-3) pitched six innings allowing two runs three hits, walking one and striking out six. Rick Anton pitched two innings allowing a run on two hits while striking out three. Scott McGough picked up his fifth save pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Captains and Loons wrap up the season series on Friday when the Captains send RHP Jordan Cooper 2-5, 4.82) to the mound to oppose RHP Garrett Gould (11-5, 2.48). The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.
Friday is a Fireworks Friday Night reworks presented by Larmco Windows and Siding. The Captains will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie by welcoming Peter Ostrum, the actor who portrayed the original Charlie Bucket, to Classic Park. Ostrum will be signing autographs and will be participating in on field activities. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under will receive a youth replica jersey presented by Stanley Steemer.
