
TinCaps stumble late, lose 8-6

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Lake County Captains scored four runs in the 8th inning to take the lead and held on for an 8-6 win over the TinCaps Saturday at Parkview Field. Wande Olabisi had three hits.
Fort Wayne had two different leads on the afternoon but could not hold them.
The TinCaps struck in the bottom of the 1st. Danny Payne rapped a leadoff double to left-center, then stole third and scored on Nate Freiman's RBI groundout.
Lake County took the lead in the 2nd on Jason Smit's two-run single. Jeremie Tice drove in Casey Frawley with a two-out double in the 3rd to put the Captains ahead, 3-1.
Freiman lifted a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to make it a 3-2 game, then the TinCaps got back on top in the 4th. Payne singled to center to plate Olabisi. Two batters later, Everett Williams hit a seeingeye single up the middle to drive in a pair and make it 5-3.
In the 5th, Jon Alia stroked a two-out single, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on an Olabisi single, pushing the lead to 6-3.
The Captains took the lead back in the top of the 8th. Chun Chen cracked a two-run triple to rightcenter, then two pitches later Smit homered to left to put the Captains ahead, 7-6. Lake County scored an insurance run in the top of the 9th without a base hit.
Fort Wayne LHP Pedro Hernandez (1-2) absorbed the loss; Lake County RHP Tyler Sturdevant won his first decision of the year and RHP Cory Burns stayed perfect in 12 save opportunities.
The TinCaps have now lost six straight games to fall to 15-21. Lake County has won five in a row to improve to 27-10.
The TinCaps and Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) finish the four-game series Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-2) gets the starting nod against Captains RHP Brett Brach (0-0), younger brother of former TinCaps closer Brad Brach.
