Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The TinCaps stranded at least one runner in each inning in a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark. LHP Nick Greenwood pitched well but took the loss.
Hot Rods RHP Alex Colome issued leadoff walks in each of the first three innings, but the TinCaps could not score. In the 2nd , Fort Wayne loaded the bases but Bowling Green 1B Ryan Wiegand
made a leaping grab on a soft liner by Jeudy Valdez to end the inning.
Bowling Green plated the game's first run in the 4th when Tyler Bortnick stroked a leadoff single and Brett Nommensen was hit by a pitch. After a double play and a walk, Julio Cedeno singled to center to drive home Bortnick and give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead.
In the 5th , Valdez hit a leadoff double to right-center but was stranded at third base.
The Hot Rods came back with a pair of runs in the 6th inning. Dustin Biell plated a run with a bunt, then Cedeno again came up with a two-out RBI single to make it 3-0.
The TinCaps finally got on the board in the top of the 7th . After Bowling Green RHP Jairo De La Rosa walked the first two hitters of the inning, he induced an infield popout, then Everett Williams singled to center to chase home a run. The TinCaps could do no further damage, leaving a pair of runners on base.
In the 7th , Tyler Bortnick doubled off RHP Daniel Sarria to chase home a pair of runs and pad the Hot Rods' lead at 5-1.
Greenwood (2-1) took the loss despite allowing just one run in five innings of work. Colome (1-2) walked six, but still delivered six scoreless innings for the Hot Rods, dropping his ERA to 2.41.
Fort Wayne fell to 13-13. The Hot Rods improved to 7-19.
The TinCaps are 1-for-20 with runners in scoring position in the two games this series.
The TinCaps and Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays) finish the three-game series Thursday at 7:35 p.m. ET. TinCaps RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-0) draws the start against Hot Rods RHP Shane Dyer (1-2).
