Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - For the first time in 34 innings against Beloit pitching, the Clinton LumberKings managed to crack the scoreboard. Unfortunately, the two-run output still wasn't enough to win, as the Snappers claimed a 5-2 victory at Alliant Energy Field Wednesday night. Beloit has won all five meetings this season.

The Snappers plated two runs against right-hander Erasmo Ramirez in the first inning. Aaron Hicks doubled to open the game and Brian Dozier followed with a single, putting runners at the corners. An error on a dropped liner by second-baseman Shaver Hansen plated the first run and opened the door for Anderson Hidalgo's RBI single, scoring Dozier.

The Kings would finally break through for a run off left-hander Edgar Ibarra in the fifth inning. Kalian Sams ripped a leadoff triple off the wall padding in left, then scored on a groundout by James Jones. The run cut the deficit to 2-1.

Ramirez (L, 0-2) had settled in for four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble again in the sixth. He allowed a two-out double to Hidalgo before exiting. Lefty Brian Moran came on and allowed Hidalgo to score on a single from Wang Wei Lin, pushing Beloit's lead to 3-1.

The Snappers would score twice more against Moran in the seventh on RBI singles from Dozier and Angel Morales. The commanding 5-1 lead would be threatened as Dennis Raben homered into the empty Lumber Lounge in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all the LumberKings could muster.

Ibarra (W, 3-2) yielded a run on three hits over 5.0 innings. Right-handers Peter Kennelly (H, 4) and Dakota Watts (S, 2) combined for a run over the final 4.0 innings.

Hidalgo finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the way for Beloit. Dozier added a 2-for-5 effort, including two runs scored and an RBI.

Nick Franklin and Vinnie Catricala each went 2-for-4 for the LumberKings. Clinton falls to a season-worst five games under .500 with the loss.

The LumberKings (11-16) conclude the series against the Beloit Snappers (17-9) tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (0-2, 0.94) will make his sixth start of the year, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
