Lansing Lugnuts News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Lansing Lugnuts' (3-2, 50-24) bullpen surrendered three home runs and 10 unanswered runs in a 10-3 loss to the host Fort Wayne TinCaps (3-2, 34-41) on Tuesday night at Parkview Field.
The Lugs brought a 3-0 lead to the sixth after starter Aaron Sanchez completed five scoreless two-hit innings, walking one, striking out three and inducing three double play grounders.
But Fort Wayne jumped on Lansing's relievers, starting the barrage against Kramer Champlin in the sixth inning. Champlin served up three extra-base hits, including a two-run homer to Tyler Stubblefield. He was replaced after two outs by Bryan Longpre (Loss, 0-2), who completed the frame before suffering through a disastrous six-run seventh.
TinCaps third baseman Duanel Jones ignited the rally with a tie-breaking home run to left. A Longpre run-scoring throwing error gave Fort Wayne a 5-3 lead, and Yeison Asencio launched a three-run homer to blow the game open.
Lansing took a three-run lead early against TinCaps starter Cody Hebner. Kevin Patterson (2-for-3) lashed an RBI triple in the second inning.
In the third, Kenny Wilson (1-for-3) delivered an RBI triple of his own and scored on Kevin Pillar's (2-for-4) run scoring single.
The TinCaps' bullpen twirled four scoreless innings, including three from James Needy (Win, 3-1) who struck out a pair.
Lugs lefty Tyler Ybarra threw 1 1/3 innings and struck out four.
Lansing committed a season-high four errors leading to five unearned runs.
The rubber match of the three-game series is at 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27th. Lefty David Rollins (5-1, 3.20) starts for Lansing while Fort Wayne sends Ruben Mejia (1-2, 4.09) to the mound.
Lansing will return home on Wednesday, July 4th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons. The opener of a three-game homestand will feature LAFCU Fireworks. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
