Peoria Chiefs News Release

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs erased an early two-run deficit and scored five times in the tenth inning Tuesday night for a 7-2 series-clinching victory over the Clinton LumberKings. The win, their third in a row, moves the Chiefs to 3-2 in the second half and 38-36 overall. The Chiefs are two games over .500 for the first time since last June.

Clinton jumped out to an early lead against Starling Peralta in the bottom of the first. With two down Ji-Man Choi clobbered the first pitch he saw into the Lumber Lounge in right field for a solo home run, his second of the season.

Jabari Blash led off the Clinton second inning with a triple off the top of the right-center field wall. Two outs later, Mario Yepez put the hosts on top 2-0 with a single right to bring home Blash. Peralta was able to escape the third inning with two left in scoring position after allowing a pair of two-out singles.

After getting just one hit against Mayekol Guaipe in the first five innings, the Chiefs tied the game in the sixth. Oliver Zapata bunted to third for his second hit of the game and reached second when Ramon Morla threw wildly to first. Pin-Chieh Chen tripled down the right field line and came around to score when the relay throw sailed well past third base. The triple is Chen's team-leading fifth of the season and tied the game 2-2.

Sergio Burruel led off the tenth with a single to right. Zapata sacrificed and was safe at first on a fielding error by Morla at third base. Chen sacrificed both runners up 90 feet and the LumberKings intentionally walked Zeke DeVoss. Taiwan Easterling, in his first game since June 11, delivered a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-2 Chiefs lead. With runners on the corners Dustin Geiger singled home DeVoss and Paul Hoilman doubled home two more with a shot off the wall in left-center. Wes Darvill drew a walk and Yasiel Balaguert put the Chiefs on top 7-2 with a single to center.

Peralta allowed two runs on eight hits over a career-high seven innings. He struck out three and did not issue a walk in his first quality start of the season. Matt Spencer (1-0) retired all six batters he faced in his Chiefs debut for the win. The converted outfielder struck out three. Yao-Lin Wang threw one hitless inning with two strikeouts and a walk.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Oliver Zapata (RF) - Zapata singled twice and scored twice while also laying down a sacrifice bunt. He had each of the Chiefs first two hits and finished the game 2-for-3.
