Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Comstock Park, MI - Drew Vettleson had four hits and four RBI's on Tuesday night, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-2, 41-34) fell 13-11 to the West Michigan Whitecaps (3-2, 39-36) at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Hot Rods scored six runs in the top of the eighth to take an 11-9 lead, but the Whitecaps answered with four runs of their own in the bottom half to secure the victory and the series win.
To get the rallying started, the Whitecaps brought ten men to the plate and scored six times in the bottom of the second inning. However, West Michigan's commanding lead was quickly diminished to a two-run advantage when the Hot Rods then scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Todd Glaesmann doubled home two runs in the outburst, and Jeff Malm brought in another runner with a sacrifice fly to right field. At the end of the top of the second, the Hot Rods trailed 6-4.
The Whitecaps went on to score three more runs and held a 9-4 advantage over the Hot Rods in the top of the seventh. After the Hot Rods scored once in the seventh, the team scored six times in the top of the eighth in a stunning rally. Vettleson provided the initial damage with a three-run double down the line in right field to make it 9-8. With two outs, Jeff Malm was nearly picked off first base, but Vettleson tied the score as he slid underneath the tag of an errant throw from Aaron Westlake. Josh Sale and Matt Rice each added RBI singles consecutively to give Bowling Green the 11-9 lead.
West Michigan had one last rally left in them as they scored four times in the bottom half of the same inning. Andrew Bellatti was one strike away from getting out of the inning unscathed, but he walked Jeff Holm. Austin Hubbard then came in and allowed two straight RBI singles and an RBI double. The Whitecaps had stunned the Hot Rods just one half inning later after the Hot Rods had done their fair share of stunning.
The three-game series and six-game road trip comes to an end on Wednesday evening at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, MI, at 6:00 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will send LHP Ryan Carpenter (7-3, 3.92) to the mound, while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Wilsen Palacios (8-4, 3.68). Tune in to the game on 1340-AM "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 5:40 PM CDT.
