CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (6/26/12) - The Burlington Bees (36-38, 4-1) learned that all good things come to an end after they lost 8-to-1 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (34-41, 2-3) on Tuesday. The loss ended the Bees season-best six-game win streak.

The Bees are no longer undefeated in the second half, but still sit atop the Midwest League Western division.

Raul Alcantara made his 14th start of the season and his first of the second half of the season. Alcantara earned a win and gave up four runs in his previous start, which came in Cedar Rapids. The 19-year-old phenom recorded a three-up, three-down bottom of the first and only allowed one walk in the second.

Alcantara allowed a run in the third inning when Alex Yarbrough grounded out to the hot corner with a runner at third. He surrendered another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single by Abel Baker. Baker came into the series hitting near the Mendoza line, but had a home run on Monday and went 2-for-4 on Tuesday.

Alcantara had a chance to pitch the fifth inning, but allowed a leadoff home run to Chevy Clarke and an RBI-single to Andy Workman.

Bees' skipper Aaron Nieckula pulled the Alcantara and asked Mota to help the Bees get out of the inning. Mota induced two ground balls to escape the inning and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings overall.

Alcantara (4-7) received his seventh loss after he pitched 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits, four earned runs, a home run, and three walks. Alcantara also recorded only one strikeout, which marks his third straight start with only one punch- out.

The night turned sour when Chas Mye allowed a three run home run after recording two outs to start the bottom of the seventh. Jonathan Joseph pitched the bottom of the eighth and allowed another run on an RBI-single by Yarbrough. The Bees trailed 8-to-0 heading into the top of the ninth.

The Bees managed to avoid a shutout after Max Muncy walked with one out and scored on a base hit by Nick Rickles. Rickles' RBI knock came with two strikes and two outs in the top of the ninth.

The Bees' winning streak ended on Tuesday night, but they try to win their fourth consecutive series in the rubber match on Wednesday. Max Perlman (1-3) get's the start at 6:35 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
