Dayton, Ohio-The Lake County Captains broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the 12th inning and held on defeat the Dayton Dragons 5-2 on Tuesday night. A crowd of 8,403 saw the game at Fifth Third Field as the Dragons fell to 0-5 in the second half.

The Dragons were within an out of the their first win of the half when Lake County tied the game in the ninth inning. The Dragons led 2-0 as Lake County batted with runners and second and third and two outs in the ninth against Dragons closer Carlos Contreras. Bryson Myles lined a single to right field to bring in both runners and tie the game.

Both teams had chances in extra innings to win it. Lake County loaded the bases with no one out in the 10th but came away empty. In the 11th, the Captains advanced a runner to third with one out but could not score. The Dragons had a chance in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Wright led off with a walk and went to second on Kyle Waldrop's sacrifice. But Yovan Gonzalez grounded out and Nick O'Shea struck out to end the frame.

In the 12th, Dayton reliever Erik Miller (0-2) hit Lake County's Jordan Casas with the first pitch of the inning. The next batter, Jose Ramirez got a bunt down that Miller fielded but then threw wildly to first, allowing Casas to go to third and Ramirez to second. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Cole Green replaced Miller. Lake County's Jordan Smith greeted Green with a run-scoring single to break the tie. A bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly brought in two more runs to give the Captains a 5-2 lead. The Dragons were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.

The Dragons took the lead in the first inning on a one-out solo home run by Juan Perez, his second of the year. In the seventh, Dayton's Nick O'Shea belted his first homer of the year to make it 2-0, a lead the Dragons held into the ninth.

Dragons starting pitcher Stalin Gerson worked the first six innings and was outstanding. He allowed two hits and no runs while walking one and striking out three. Ryan Kemp pitched a perfect seventh inning and Contreras tossed a 1-2-3 eighth before he allowed three hits and two runs in the ninth to suffer his third blown save of the year in 10 save opportunities. Miller was charged with three runs (one earned) in two innings of relief and took the loss.

The Dragons finished with six hits. Perez extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games with the home run. Junior Arias was 1 for 6 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games as well.

The Dragons host the Captains on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the last game of a three-game series. Carlos Gonzalez, who went 0-2, 6.43 in April with the Dragons, will be called up to make the start in place of Jacob Johnson, who is sidelined with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Gonzalez will be opposed by Lake County's Felix Sterling (3-6, 5.63).
