Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - After trailing 3-1 in the ninth inning, the TinCaps scored two runs to tie it and take the game to extra innings. In the 10th, Fort Wayne pushed across one more to take its only lead of the game and win 4-3 on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.
Wisconsin (31-18) got on the board with a run in the first and added another in the third to lead 2-0 through five innings. Then in the sixth, Fort Wayne (22-27) trimmed its deficit with an Anthony Vilar RBI single.
The Timber Rattlers built their lead back up to two with a tally in the seventh and led 3-1 heading into the ninth inning before the 'Caps battled back. Vilar, the catcher, led off with a walk and second baseman Nerwilian Cedeño doubled soon after. With runners on second and third, Lucas Dunn hit a sacrifice fly to score Vilar and Fort Wayne pulled within one. Later on, first baseman Griffin Doersching smacked an RBI double to score Cedeño and tie the game.
Right fielder Kai Murphy began the 10th inning at second base and moved over to third when designated hitter Ethan Salas (No.1 Padres prospect) grounded out. A Jay Beshears sacrifice fly scored Murphy to take a 4-3 lead.
On the mound, Henry Baez (No. 30 Padres prospect) started the game and went three innings, allowing two runs, and striking out five. After Baez, Will Geerdes, Tyler Morgan, Ruben Galindo, and Manuel Castro combined for seven innings of one-run ball out of the 'pen.
Left fielder Devin Ortiz, Beshears, and Vilar each notched two hits to lead the team.
The TinCaps moved to 5-5 in extra-inning games with the victory. Out of 120 teams in Minor League Baseball, the 'Caps are tied with Beloit for most extra-inning games played so far this season. Fort Wayne also leads the Midwest League with 18 one-run decisions played.
