Beloit, Wisc. - Beloit's Josh Zamora delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Sky Carp came from behind to defeat the Dayton Dragons 6-5 on Friday night. The two teams have split the first four games of the series.

The Dragons built a 4-0 lead before Beloit had a hit in the game, but the Dayton bullpen had a rough night. For the first time in 2024, Dayton lost a game they had led by more than three runs.

Game Summary: The Dragons scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning and then added three more in the fifth, keyed by an RBI single by Jay Allen II and a two-run single by Cam Collier that made it 4-0.

Dragons starting pitcher Bryce Hubbart enjoyed his best game of the season and did not allow a hit until Beloit's Jake DeLeo belted a two-run home run in the fifth to make it 4-2. Hubbart lasted six innings, surrendering two runs on only the one hit with no walks and four strikeouts.

Hubbart left the game with a 5-2 lead after the Dragons scored a run on a wild pitch in the sixth. But Beloit responded with a run in the seventh against Dayton reliever Brody Jessee to make it 5-3. Jessee allowed hits to the first two batters in the eighth inning and was replaced by Pedro Alfonseca with runners at first and third.

Alfonseca threw a wild pitch that brought in a run to make it 5-4, and after getting a strikeout, he hit a batter to put runners at first and second with one out. Josh Zamora then connected on a hard ground ball down the left field line to drive in two and give Beloit a 6-5 lead.

The Dragons got a two-out walk from Cam Collier in the ninth inning, but Cade Hunter grounded out to second base to end the game.

Alfonseca (0-1) was charged with the loss.

The Dragons seven-hit attack was led by Allen, who had two hits, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI; Sal Stewart, who was 2 for 5 with two runs scored; and Yan Contreras, who also had two hits and two runs scored.

The Dragons remained four games behind first place Lake County with 17 games to play in the first half season.

Up Next: The Dragons (24-25) battle Beloit (22-26) again in the fifth game of the six-game series on Saturday night at 7:35 pm (EDT). The starting pitchers for both teams on Saturday will be making their Midwest League debuts after spending the first two months of the season in the Florida State League. Jose Franco (1-0, 3.64 with Daytona) will start for Dayton against Beloit's Noble Meyer (2-2, 2.65 with Jupiter).
