Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps set season highs for runs, hits, and margin of victory in a 15-0 pounding of the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.
Fort Wayne (28-33) totaled 19 hits - the team's most in a game since recording 20 on Aug. 27, 2016, against West Michigan.
This was the most lopsided win for the TinCaps since Labor Day 2015 when beating Bowling Green, 17-0.
While the offensive clearly did its part, highly touted pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore also had a successful return from the Disabled List. The 19-year-old left-hander tossed two hitless innings. He struck out three in the first, working around a walk. In the second, although he made up for hitting a batter, Samad Taylor, by picking him off at first. Gore's fastball ranged from 93-95 miles per hour.
Lefty Aaron Leasher followed in relief with six innings of relief. He scattered four singles, three walks, and a hit batter. Leasher struck out six.
Jordan Guerrero followed with a perfect ninth to complete the shutout, Fort Wayne's third of the season, and third in the last 16 games.
Lansing (39-24) starter Maximo Castillo, who MLB.com rates as the No. 24 Blue Jays prospect, allowed a run in the first, two in the third, and then got chased from the game in the fourth.
The TinCaps sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth, as they put up six runs to take a commanding 9-0 lead. The 'Caps added three more in the seventh and another three in the ninth.
Esteury Ruiz, the designated hitter, provided the exclamation point that made it 15 with a laser of a two-run homer to left field - his team-leading sixth long ball of the season.
Ruiz (4 RBIs), second baseman Justin Lopez (2 RBIs), shortstop Gabriel Arias (2 RBIs), and catcher Juan Fernandez all had three-hit games. Every TinCap in the lineup had at least one hit.
Fort Wayne also matched a season high with seven extra-base hits.
