Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Peoria, IL - The Fort Wayne TinCaps capitalized on 10 Peoria walks on their way to an 8- 4 win over the Chiefs, Sunday at O'Brien Field. Yefri Carvajal went 2-for-5 with a double and Stiven Osuna won his fourth straight start since returning to the starting rotation.
Fort Wayne raced to an early lead when Blake Tekotte took a leadoff walk. Daniel Robertson followed by lining an RBI double to left-center to open the scoring. Peoria responded in the bottom of the 2nd with a two-out rally. Junior Lake's two-out RBI double tied the game and Drew Rundle flared a broken-bat single to left to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.
The TinCaps took the lead back in the top of the 5th. Brayden Drake took a leadoff walk and Tekotte singled. The ball got past the left fielder to push the runners to second and third with nobody out. RHP Alberto Cabrera entered from the bullpen and induced a comebacker to the mound, but after an intentional walk Allan Dykstra drew a basesloaded free pass to tie the game. Cole Figueroa lifted a sacrifice fly to right to make it 3- 2. Then, with the runners off with the pitch, Carvajal swung and missed at strike three but the ball got past the catcher. Decker never broke stride and sprinted home on the wild pitch to put the TinCaps ahead, 4-2.
The Chiefs twice closed to within a run, but on both occasions the TinCaps came back with runs of their own. With a 6-4 lead in the 9th, Fort Wayne took back-to-back walks to start the inning. Carvajal then doubled into the right-field corner to drive in a run. A walk loaded the bases and Drake drew another walk to push home another run to make it 8-4.
Osuna (6-6) was the winner, allowing two runs in five innings. Peoria RHP Chris Archer (3-3) took with the loss.
The TinCaps upped their record to 60-27 overall, 15-2 in the second half. The Chiefs fell to 45-41, 7-10 in the half.
Fort Wayne and the Chiefs (Class-A Chicago Cubs) finish the three-game series Monday at noon Eastern time. TinCaps RHP Erik Davis (8-3) is opposed by Peoria RHP Kevin Hart (0-0), a major leaguer making a tune-up start in Class-A
